It is often difficult to find appropriate books for children whose reading age is lower than their chronological age. Graded Books for Children

The following list is a very rough leveling of books from grade 1 to grade7. It was generated by speaking to librarians, borrowing lists, searching the internet and interviewing children. Thanks to the children of The Grove Primary School in Claremont Cape Town for their valuable advice. When choosing books, try to find an author that your child enjoys. Don’t give up! It may be necessary to choose books from lower grades for children with barriers to reading. However, Parents can still read age-appropriate books to their children with reading barriers. Audio books are also a very valuable way to stimulate language skills for children who cannot yet read at their age level.
